Our writers work in many genres—fiction, non-fiction, juvenile literature, poetry, memoir, etc. Galaxy helps all writers by extending to the community-at-large the opportunity to participate in regular Critique-a-Thons where writers can receive immediate feedback on their works-in-progress. This spurs us on to rewrite and consider our reader as we move forward. Gentle and friendly responses to a writer’s questions encourages creativity in many ways.
We also encourage members to attend local writing conferences offered by OWFI (Oklahoma Writers Federation, inc.), Tornado Alley, WriterCon, The Oklahoma Metropolitan Library System, etc. Sessions are offered on the craft of writing, editing, marketing, publishing, and genre-specific workshops with nationally recognized keynote speakers attending.
Writing Contests are a part of the writing life, offering great feedback from judges on the writing you submit. Our Galaxy Contest with 9 categories is offered in the fall to our members. The OWFI Contest runs in January each year. Other contests are announced in the WriteLine newsletter.
Galaxy’s main objective, as stated in its Mission, is to aid local writers as they engage in the creative process. We provide a means for networking, learning from professionals, and cultivating that sense of community that inspires us to keep writing.
Our monthly meetings, held the second Saturday of the month, 10 am - noon, at The Well in Norman, not only allow us to conduct business important to our group, but also present speakers who give us insight in ways to work and to improve going forward.
Our meetings are open to all interested writers, but we encourage you to become a member for the yearly fee of $25.00.
