GALAXY EVENTS

Meetings

Galaxy holds monthly meetings on the 2nd Saturday of each month at The Well in Norman, 210 S. James Garner Ave., and by Zoom. A short business meeting is usually followed by a speaker on a writing-associated topic. Our December potluck meeting announces our yearly contest winners while our January meeting gives those contest winners a chance to present their winning entries to the audience. We welcome all persons interested in writing to attend our meetings.

Critique-a-Thons

Galaxy sponsors Critique-a-Thons several times a year, depending upon needs and requests from members. The critique sessions are open to all local writers, who are asked to bring 5 copies of up to 8 pages of a work-in-progress. After dividing into small groups, writers give each other feedback. In the past these events have been held at the Norman West Library, but new construction at that site may temporarily cause us to relocate. Check News and Notes for updates.

Contests

Contests -  One of the highlights of Galaxy’s year is the annual contest, held each October. Rules and regulations are published in September in WriteLine and winners announced at the December meeting. Writers may submit in 9 categories: Juvenile Fiction, Adult Flash Fiction, Adult Short Story, Novel, Rhymed Poetry, Unrhymed Poetry, Nonfiction Feature Article, Nostalgia Memoir or Essay, and Personal Opinion Essay.
